ALBERTO CERQUI AMONG THE BEST GUEST STARS OF THE PORSCHE MOBIL 1 SUPERCUP IN MONZA

06/09/2015 - Alberto Cerqui had a very positive debut in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup in Monza. The driver of Centro Porsche Brescia, at the start on a Porsche 911 GT3 run by Team Antonelli Motorsport, turned out to be one of the best Italians on track.

Since qualifying he has been lapping on times very close to those of the top ten drivers, despite he had not been driving the 911 for nearly two years. On Saturday Cerqui obtained the ninth row stopping the watches in 1'52.155, that was only seven tenths shy of the pole position set by M&n.369;ller. The driver from Brescia hit a bit of traffic in his best lap which slowed him down and he could not get a top ten start for only two tenths of a second. In race one Cerqui put in a great start recovering two places straight away and ended in twelfth place, which was fourth of the Italians and second among the guest stars, that are the drivers not running the whole season of Mobil 1 Supercup.

Cerqui started race two from the twelfth place of the grid but a great getaway earned him a couple of places. In the heat of the start he was involved in a contact at the Roggia Chicane that damaged his radiator and ruined the convergence of his Porsche 911 GT3, losing some positions. Despite this handicap and a blurt tyre on some debris at lap two, the car has been really competitive and Cerqui lapped on times close to those of the top ten. The Italian driver ended the race in P19, defending his position and trying not to damage his 911 GT3 any further.

Alberto Cerqui:
"It went really well. I am very happy on the result obtained in Monza after such a long time I have not driven a Porsche. The level of Mobil 1 Supercup is really stellar, and this gave me the right motivation for the whole weekend. I am sorry on not putting in a more effective lap in qualifying, which would have allowed me to run a race among the front runners, but the experience in Monza has been very positive. I had a lot of fun in all the battles that we faced on track and I would like to thank team Antonelli Motorsport and Centro Porsche Brescia for giving me such an amazing car ".
