ALBERTO CERQUI: A GREAT PROTAGONIST IN IMOLA, OPENING HIS SEASON WITH A PODIUM IN THE ITALIAN GT CHAMPIONSHIP 2018

30.04.2018 - A great third place in race one has rewarded Alberto Cerqui's efforts in the first round of the Italian GT Championship 2018, race held last weekend at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari circuit in Imola.

The Italian driver has taken part in the opener of season 2018 behind the wheel of the n.15 BMW M6 GT3 alongside co-equiper Stefano Comandini, in preparation to the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2018 with Dinamic Motorsport.

Cerqui's fabric was confirmed with great lap times since free practice that saw him very close to the front-runners. The driver from Brescia kept his momentum also in Q2, when he posted a 1'41.560s that qualified the n.15 BMW M6 GT3 on the third row of the grid in fifth place.

After running Q1, Comandini started race one from the fifth row and handed the car over to Cerqui in fourth place. The Italian driver rejoined the track resolute to get the podium and a very effective race pace allowed him to close in on the n.23 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 recovering more than 10s. The penalty handed to the rivals due to an early contact, allowed Cerqui to cross the finish line in third place.

Cerqui's race two has been less positive though. He recovered one place in his race stint, getting P4, but an excursion of Comandini at Rivazza ended the race of the BMW M6 GT3 early.

Alberto Cerqui:
"It has been a good experience to be back to the Italian GT Championship and I am happy on contributing to take the BMW M6 GT3 on the podium of race one. The race pace in race two was also really good, I was close to the top and we could have finished in the top 3. I wish the team the best of luck to continue season 2018 as protagonists after this opener. I will focus on the challenge of Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup that I cannot wait to start".

Alberto Cerqui will get on track in less than two weeks time at Red Bull Ring (A) for a testing session ahead of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup 2018 opener in Barcelona (E) next May 11-13.
