VERY POSITIVE DEBUT IN SUPERSTARS SERIES FOR ALBERTO CERQUI IN MONZA

10/04/2011 - Alberto Cerqui started on the right foot the adventure in Superstars Series in Monza, theatre of the season opener.

The young Italian driver, at his first racing weekend with BMW Team Italy at the wheel of the M3 BMW reigning champion, starting from qualifying held Saturday appeared to be in good shape and ended the session with the eighth best time (1'57.719) on a not very favourable track to the features of the Bavarian coupe.

Today in race one since the initial stage he put on track all that grit and determination that took Cerqui to the Formula Azzurra title in 2009. Alberto pushed lap after lap without making any mistake until crossing the finish line in fifth position harvesting in this way the first eight points of the season.

Cerqui produced a strong performance also in race two where he did not miss the chance to fight with rivals. The eighteen years old Italian lapped constantly on fast times and with another good recover he secured yet another fifth place.

Alberto Cerqui:
"As expected, Monza turned out to favour most cars with capacities higher than that of our M3 BMW. This is the reason why the two fifth places are a particularly positive result, fruit of the great work done by the whole team during the weekend. Communication with Roberto Ravaglia, with my team mates and technicians has been continuous in a wonderful team where every little detail is prepared with the highest care. We just started but I am extremely satisfied with starting the season on the right foot".

Cerqui is now third in the standings with sixteen points, first of the BMW drivers and at the lead of the rookies classification.

The Superstars Series will be back on track next 8 May in Valencia (Spain).
